Training to make a difference in the lives of others

Nurses play an important part in the healthcare field, providing patients with direct, hands-on care. Practical nurses measure and record vital signs, administer medications and injections, collect lab specimens, and utilize electronic health record systems. With Las Vegas College, you can enter the medical field as a Practical Nurse in as little as 15 months.

Why train to be a Practical Nurse in Las Vegas?

Practical Nurses work in many settings, including long-term care and rehabilitation facilities, assisted living centers, medical offices, clinics and home healthcare agencies. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of Practical Nurses is projected to grow 11 percent from 2018 to 2028, much faster than the average for all occupations. As the baby-boom population ages, the overall need for healthcare services is expected to increase, and LPNs will be critical to provide care for older patients in residential care facilities and in private homes.

Why Train to be a Practical Nurse at Las Vegas College?

Las Vegas College’s Practical Nursing program provides hands-on training so that students may practice in real life situations, rather than learning just from textbooks. Students at LVC learn how to perform critical duties, including how to:

  • Measure and record vital signs
  • Administer medications and injections
  • Start and monitor IVs
  • Bladder catheterization
  • Collect laboratory specimens
  • Record information in electronic health records
  • Work with RNs in the care of acutely ill patients
  • Assist older adults with activities of daily living

Graduates of Las Vegas College’s Practical Nursing program will be prepared to sit for the NCLEX-PN licensure examination by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN).

If you are considering a career in which you can help others and be proud of what you do, Nursing may be the choice for you. With Las Vegas College’s practical nursing program, you will be prepared to begin your career as a Practical Nurse!

In order to prepare students for success, the Practical Nurse program is similar in rigor to a Registered Nursing program, so that students are prepared to transfer to an RN program if desired. Graduates of LVC’s PN program who wish to pursue an Associate of Applied Science, Nursing degree and become an RN will receive advanced placement status and have only one additional year of schooling.
